WhatsApp Expands Multi-Device Mode Features
Oct-02-2022
Support for multiple devices is a feature without which it is difficult to imagine modern messengers and platforms. For a long time, WhatsApp on a smartphone could only be connected to a PC. Now, the capabilities of the multi-gadget support mode will become wider.
According to WABetaInfo, the so-called Companion mode has appeared in recent beta versions for Android devices. Unlike the previous option, with support for up to four computers and the inability to "mirror" your profile on a portable gadget, this feature will allow you to pair your main device (smartphone) with Android tablets. In this mode, linking will be carried out the same way as in the usual multi-device mode. On your smartphone, you will need to select the point with linked devices in the menu, and on the tablet, scan the QR code in the installed application. After that, chats on both your devices will be synchronized, even if your main smartphone will not have an Internet connection.
Although it is a new mode, it will not differ much from the previous version. You will still only be able to link four devices. Besides, as WABetaInfo suggests, some features, such as location tracking, may be missing in such a format. Such conclusions are made on the basis of testing the beta version, so it is possible that the developers will improve this mode by the time of launch. The interface may also be redesigned, but the current version seems very well adapted for tablet use in a landscape mode. Overall, the Companion mode works pretty smoothly, but it's not perfect; many "roughness" will be finalized in the testing process.
Do you think the new mode will be functionally useful? Do you need to use tablets to communicate via WhatsApp? Do developers need to add more slots for linked devices?
