Exploring the World of Infants in the Sims 4

Infants are the newest exciting addition to the Sims 4 universe. On March 14, 2023, the Sims team introduced a fresh life stage called Infants as part of the base game update, bringing an extra dimension to family-centered gameplay. In this updated guide, we delve into everything you need to know to navigate this life stage for your Sims 4 characters.

Introducing Infants in Sims 4

Introducing Infants in Sims 4

Acting as a transition phase between Newborns and Toddlers, Infants represent a significant stage of early development in Sims 4. Think of your Sim babies learning to crawl, communicating in their unique language, and tasting solid foods for the first time. For these Infants, the world is their oyster with every experience entirely new and exciting. Infants earn traits based on the level of care they receive, which will manifest as they age into Toddlers.

Deciphering Infant Traits

The game features six distinct Infant traits, each reflective of varied baby behaviors. These traits range from easily managed behaviors to more challenging ones. They impact everything from how likely your Infants are to explore the world independently to their interaction pace with new experiences, places, and Sims. It's crucial to understand these traits to provide the best care for your digital infants, tailoring your interactions appropriately.

Creating Your Infant

Creating Your Infant

Infants can be created in Create-A-Sim (CAS), much like any other life stage. You can fully customize their appearance, from their hair and skin details to clothes and accessories. Additionally, you can select their trait, their names, and other defining information in CAS. If you prefer a more organic route, players can also opt to get their Sims pregnant using the "Try for Baby" interaction. There's even a quicker way with the "Have A Science Baby" interaction, introduced in the Infant update, allowing you to have a Newborn instantaneously. This new addition means any Sim can have a science baby with either a good friend or go the single parent route.

Making the Most of Base Game Infant Gameplay

The Infant update didn't just bring a new life stage; it came loaded with new gameplay interactions and essential items for Infants. Players can assist their little Sims in exploring the world, catering to their unique needs and wants with nursery essentials. This includes cribs that act as safe sleeping zones and various baby food options to aid the transition to solid foods. There's even the option to baby proof your homes to keep the curious Infants safe, alongside other numerous Infant-interactions to try out.

The thirteenth Expansion pack, known as Growing Together, is a must if you want to further expand your Infant gameplay. This pack is heavily family-centered, adding numerous activities and features for the Infants. Milestones track your Infant’s development, from learning movements and interacting with the world to achieving tasks. Infants can also possess Quirks, which are randomly assigned personality traits that affect their overall behavior and emotions. The Expansion pack even includes additional items like changing tables, a play mat, and back carriers, contributing to increased Infant-activities and enhancing the gameplay.
